Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach beginners?

Yes! I have taught many beginner guitarists over the years so certainly don't let the fact that you are a beginner stop you from realising your guitar dreams! Anybody can learn to play guitar with a little direction and practice. I have an excellent selection of materials for beginner lessons and you are more than welcome to make use of my equipment should you need it!

Where are you based?

I teach the majority of my guitar students from my home teaching space located on Henley Road, Ipswich, IP1 3SE. It is a great place to learn to play the guitar with all the equipment that we need for our guitar lessons. Click on the map below to bring up my location on Google Maps!

Alternatively, I can also teach guitar students in the comfort of their own homes - so should you wish for me to travel to you I certainly can (additional charges may apply for travel costs and time). Ultimately, it is totally up to you where you would like to base our lessons. I am very happy to travel to clients and equally happy to teach you guitar from my home on Henley Road.

What will we learn?

I leave this entirely up to you, the student. We can play a combination of songs of your choosing, introducing theory slowly through playing songs you love. Or we can take a more theory based approach designed to get you writing your own material and not just playing but understanding the songs you want to play quickly. I teach students of all ability levels and with lots of different musical tastes. So whether you want to learn to shred like Steve Vai, harmonise like Hendrix or learn the latest Bruno Mars song I offer something for everyone.

Do you teach children?

Yes, I specialise in doing so having taught in many local schools and held numerous workshops for young students. I'm a firm believer that music is a great educational tool both academically and socially. Guitar is fantastic for building confidence and it is personally very rewarding to watch a young student thoroughly enjoy playing the guitar.

What do I need to bring to lessons?

Nothing at all, I can provide all the necessary equipment. Although if you do have your own equipment I'm more than happy to help with maintenance and set up. For example, lots of my students ask for help with changing their strings, setting their action, getting the sound their after out of their amp and maintaining their instrument. I'm always happy to provide help to those who want it for any of these issues.

Do you teach grades?

Yes, I've helped lots of students prepare for exams with both Rock School and ABRSM. I will say that grades are not for everyone but if it is one of your goals I'm fully equipped to help you achieve it.

Do you teach group lessons?

Absolutely, I have lot's of experience running workshops and some of my private lessons are taught to groups. Some of my pupils share lessons with a brother or sister. If that is an arrangement that works for you just get in touch!

Do you offer vouchers?

Sure, just get in touch for more information - they are a great gift for birthdays, Christmas and other special occasions.
